The salary of a Gentleman’s Valet or Lady’s Maid will ultimately depend on their level of training and experience. However, you can expect an average annual wage of £40,000 to £60,000. Those with Royal Household experience will typically command higher rates of salary.

The primary location of the role will also be a consideration when negotiating salary. Positions that are based overseas, within central London or roles that require frequent travel may require a higher salary.

The role of a Valet / Lady’s Maid

• Complete wardrobe management and rotation.
• Keeping an up to date inventory of all clothing items and accessories.
• Managing temperature control of items such as leather goods and furs.
• Handling and specialist care of vintage, delicate and fine fabrics.
• Seasonal rotation and appropriate storage of heavier pieces including; furs, wool & cashmere garments.
• Heavier items and winter garments are stored appropriately during the summer months, keeping every item in pristine condition, whilst the wardrobe as a whole is organised and rotated from one season to another.
• Valets & Lady’s Maids typically travel with their Principal and are responsible for the packing of all clothing and personal items, steaming or pressing of garments, seeing to any specialist stain removal, maintaining accessories, shoes and leather goods in immaculate condition, and finally the dressing of their Principal.
• Lady’s Maids may also have experience with styling hair.
• In terms of staff ranking, a Gentlemans Valet or Lady’s Maid will sit between a Head Butler and a Junior Butler or Houseman.
