Head Gardener – Ascot

£35,000.00-£45,000.00 (Negotiable DOE)|Ascot, Berkshire|Permanent

Seeking a qualified and experienced Head Gardener for a private house in Ascot, Berkshire. Situated in a highly desirable location and surrounded by beautiful landscape this is a role that requires an individual with excellent horticultural knowledge and a proactive approach.

The gardens are 1.5 acres in total and include formal gardens with herbaceous borders and a woodland aspect. The garden presents the opportunity for rejuvenation, redesign, and new planting while observing a nonchemical, organic environment.

The ideal candidate will have comprehensive horticultural knowledge and strong communication skills, enabling them to work well with the Principals and discuss new ideas for overall garden design and seasonal planning. The garden also houses 30 beautiful trees, with plans to expand this number over the coming seasons.

The client would also like to plant an abundant kitchen garden. The Head Gardener will work with the chef to curate a seasonal garden that provides fresh vegetables, salad leaves, root vegetables, herbs, berries, and more. Plenty of tomatoes will be needed (for homemade pizza and pasta sauce) and produce to preserve and pickle in the autumn.

This opportunity provides complete oversight of all garden improvements and seasonal maintenance.

We are looking for an applicant who shows enthusiasm and confidence in bringing the grounds into a new and exciting chapter.

You must be willing to share the gardens with two friendly dogs (a Springer Spaniel and a Golden Retriever).

The property is easily accessible from the M3 and rail networks from London. As with most gardener roles, all applicants must hold a driving licence. A car can be made available for work purposes, although applicants with their own vehicle are preferred.

An annexe is available should the selected applicant wish to live on-site. It is entirely self-contained but small.
